Since graduating with a first class honours degree in printed Textile Design, Charlotte has worked primarily as a painter and regularly taken on illustration commissions for greeting cards, book covers, editorials and murals. Her paintings have been exhibited nationally and her work has been printed internationally as prints and stationary.
Charlotte is drawn to decoration and pattern often in domestic interiors and collections of ornamental objects. Her training in textiles is evident in her use of flat motifs and her sense of design. There is a gentle narrative to the work which has a whimsical quality to it. Collage papers are often stuck onto the canvas or paper and then acrylics and inks used on top to create textural surfaces.
A residency at Camberwell Art College in the MA printmaking department led to a collection of screen prints. Charlotte transferred her black line sketchbook drawings straight onto the screen and then hand coloured them individually.
More recently Charlotte has been inspired by her love of nature and plants and is working more from life, exploring mark-making and more playful compositions. Traditions, customs and folklore are informing a new narrative.
